Dearest friends and followers,
First of all, I apologize for my tardiness of late, but life has a way of throwing curveballs that consume not only your time but your headspace, as I’m sure you know.
I have several exciting things in the pipeline, but for today’s newsletter I would like to focus on my forthcoming novella from Sobelo Books, called Death of a Clown, and share with you the cover reveal…
My husband is an illustrator/3D artist and it was he who designed the cover, so I’d like to thank him formally here for doing such a great job in capturing the essence of the story: Tony Evans, I will love and cherish you forever and a day!
So what is it about?
Will you forgive me if I first explain what it isn’t?
It’s not about death
It’s not horror
It’s not even about a circus, not really
Which brings me right back where I started… what is it about?
It’s about death in the metaphorical sense
It’s a bit of a genre mash-up: dark fantasy, speculative fiction, a hint of Steampunk
It’s about someone who is born and raised in a culture to which he feels he doesn’t belong, and that’s the crux of the story right there, that sense of being an outsider, a misfit, a lone wolf
The dedication for Death of a Clown reads:
…to all those who, at some point or other, find themselves lost on the path of life.
Be brave! Be bold! And remember, you only get one shot at this glorious shit show
To say it stems from a personal space is somewhat of an understatement, but I know I’m not alone in this.
And here’s the blurb:
Born and raised into the Sacred Order of Tragicomedy, Chester Brown's path is written in stone. The bulbous nose and gigantic feet define him physically, while The Sacred Church of Razzmatazz ensnares him in its grip.
For Chester there can be no escape...or so he believes.
But Chester Brown has a secret passion―he longs to become a writer.
When a chance encounter leads him on an existential pilgrimage across Europe, a new world begins to surface.
Will Chester manage to erase the marks of the clown, or will the bonds of his past prove unbreakable?
DEATH OF A CLOWN is a metaphorical tale of dark fantasy, a story of hope, courage and self acceptance.
So there we have it, friends. I hope with all my heart that many of you will pick up a copy when it releases on May 28th. I’ll let you know once it’s on Goodreads so that you can add it to your TBR, should you feel inclined to do so.
If there are any bloggers/reviewers among you, please drop me a comment or reach out via my social channels and I can give you the link to an ARC.
Thanks so much for reading!
Love from Wales,
Catherine McCarthy
